Abstract
In this paper, we use administrative tabulations from occupation-based income tax to estimate income inequality in the Duchy of Warsaw. Firstly we estimate income inequality in the Department of Kalisz, then take advantage of the decomposability of the Theil index and estimate national-level income inequality based on a sample of Theil indices corresponding to the different settlements types.
According to our results, income inequality in the Duchy was on a moderate level. However, income inequality in the biggest cities was relatively high. Income inequality at the county level is strongly positively correlated with the mean income of the county.
