Dear Members,
As you will have seen lately, there have been a couple of attempts by con artists to inflict their spam upon forum members. These are growing in frequency as the forum becomes more popular.
Particular thanks to those folks who have flagged this with me. There is no add on for this forum that allows me to vet posts individually before they go live (to make that happen we'd be talking about a whole new website which at this stage is not a viable option). I have however maximised the restrictions that the company which supports the site allow to be put in place.
As a result, new posters are restricted to making one post a day in their first 7 days, which will obviously limit traffic. Apologies to those whose enjoyment is spoiled in the process, but this increases my chance of detecting those people who join us for nefarious purposes. After the 7 days there is not limit (spammer psychology is generally to join up, plaster us, and then run away/get blocked, so this should catch reduce their ability to plaster the forum).
I have also placed a series of related words in the 'spam' filter. If a post contains these words (and they are usually all of much the same type), it should be blocked from appearing on the site. These words are highly unlike to relate to discussions of the Revolutionary and Napoleonic era, but if you do experience issues, please let me know.
In the meantime, please do keep reporting the posts - if you click the three dots immediately above the post, on the right hand side, you'll get a drop down menu which emails a notification to me, and I'll investigate it as soon as I can.
The other, obvious, thing to say is please don't click links that you don't know you can trust.
Thank you as ever for your continued, high quality contributions to the forum. Stay well my friends.
Zack
