Biography
Teresa Michals is an Associate Professor of English Literature at George Mason University. She received her Ph.D. from the Johns Hopkins University and teaches courses on the history of children's literature, nineteenth-century and late eighteenth-century literature, and composition. Her research and teaching focus on changing ideas of age, identity, and fiction. She has published articles on the history of childhood and on the relation of English theatre and novels to public morality in journals such as Nineteenth-Century Literature, Eighteenth-Century Studies, and Studies in Eighteenth-Century Culture, as well as an essay on toys and middle-class childhood in the book collection, The Nineteenth-Century Child and Consumer Culture (Ashgate Press). She published Books for Children, Books for Adults: Age and the Novel from Defoe to James with Cambridge University Press in 2014.
