1814, DE PRISIONERO A CIUDADANO. SOLDADOS DEL EJÉRCITO NAPOLEÓNICO EN CANARIAS

Anuario de Estudios Atlánticos, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. España (2016), núm. 62: 062-002, pp. 1-23

Thousands of men of the Napoleonic army were sent as prisoners to the Canary Isles from Cadiz during the War of Independence. For five years they coexisted with the canaries. In fact hundreds of them having signed the peace (1814) decided not to embark in the French ships that came at the end of the year and beginning of the following one. They continued in the archipelago where they built families, stores and companies.
