This small group of fourteen manuscript maps documents the British presence in the East Indies, especially Penang off the coast of Malaya, Java, Sumatra, and Ternate in the early 19ft century during the Napoleonic Wars, when the British gained control of the lucrative trade of this part of Southeast Asia from the Dutch and their French conquerors
