Wellington: Romantic Hero?

Wellington was not an easy figure to build into a romantic hero

"He was, it is true, a more defensive tactician than Napoleon, but I don’t think that that has led to his military qualities being undervalued, and certainly not in Britain....It is clear that, while he was respected by his troops, it was primarily because he brought them victories (and thus saved their lives); he could be ruthless, even brutal, and was certainly more feared than loved."

You are jumping from one topic to the other. I raised the importance to consult newer editions than older ones, then you divert to bashing the Prussian artillery of the 7YW, then the Prussians in general and now the Russian artillery, and the campaign of 1814 again, who died a miserable death in exile?

The French artillery suffered badly in 1812 and 1813 and their officers - despite their fawners of today, were quite critical about it.

But all this was discussed in endless and useless debates on other fora, and I will move on to other topics.
