POWs returned by General Andrew Jackson in 1815, a transcription

I have taken a look at the transcription of Britons returned from the captivity of the Americans, archive reference ADM 103/466. I was having trouble accessing the web page, but I can access it okay now. Link: https://1812privateers.org/Great_Britain/prisoners.html Whilst I found this via Justin Young's website, the transcription and the website that host it are not his work. Michael Dun has the right under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act, 1988, to be identified as the author of the behemoth prisoner transcription from whence these details came. He has given me permission to reproduce the General Jackson-related data here. In most instances, the transcript will state where the released POW has come from. This makes it easier to identify who had been held by General Andrew Jackson's forces. Here is a summary of prisoners by unit: Unit Subtotal 4th Foot 60 7th Foot 20 21st Foot 239 43rd Foot 14 44th Foot 73 85th Foot 38 93rd Foot 96 95th Foot 61 14th Light Dragoons 38 Royal Artillery 11 Royal Sappers and Miners 1 Surgeons 3 Total POWs 654

It appears there are details about these men in the US archives, and that this has been available via Ancestry since 2007. War of 1812, Prisoner of War Records, 1812-1815

This database contains records relating to Prisoners of War from the War of 1812. Most of the records are regarding American soldiers, but some regard civilians and British soldiers.

Records contained in this collection include:

Lists of prisoners

Accounts of clothing provided U.S. agents to prisoners held in Canada

Lists of soldiers captured at a certain place or in a certain battle

Lists of prisoners held at a certain place

Lists of prisoners who died in captivity

Lists of men exchanged

Correspondence

Each record has been assigned a manuscript number.

In addition to the actual records and manuscripts, this database also contains a set of index cards. These index cards list soldiers’ names and the manuscript numbers of the records in which they appear. These index cards are arranged in alphabetical order according to surname and are useful for locating individuals in the actual records.

In addition to the soldier’s name, his rank, company, and regiment may also be listed on the record.
