Journals Of Sieges Carried On By The Army Under The Duke Of Wellington, In Spain, During The Years 1811 To 1814 by Sir John Jones

This is an outstanding publication for anyone interested in British siege operations in the Peninsula. Jones was a more-than-competent engineer officer who understood, through hard-earned experience, that the British engineer arm had to be improved in order to properly conduct siege operations. He, along with other thoughtful and far-seeing engineer officers, understood that without proper engineer units, Wellington's army would continue to suffer both reverses and heavy casualties by being 'required' to take French-helf fortresses by costly infantry assaults. This is an essential reference for any competent study of the subject.
