The Economics and Logistics of Horse-drawn Armies
Hugh G W Davie
The capabilities of horse-drawn armies were recorded by contemporary observers and by later historians, nonetheless there has been a continuing debate regarding the capacity and workings of these forces, particularly once they were integrated with and then superseded by, newer forms of transport such as railways and motor vehicles. This paper argues that little attention has been paid to the wider economic environment in which these armies operated, and in turn the supply of these armies can be considered as an economic system in its own right.

Not sure how it started but a couple years ago got into filling out limbers, then caissons, then wagons. And was a investigation how horses, then oxen were used as I try to make my models as realistic as I can. Finding out how 4, 8 horses wete used to pull a load in next to impossible to find out.

Unfortunately, too many of the skills in horsemastership are gone. I rode for years, learning how when I was ten.
I also made sure that my son learned how when he was little and I asked his instructor, who was excellent, to ensure he learned horsemastership, which she taught him.
Horses are excellent animals and the study of them, and what they did during the wars of this period and later, especially during the American Civil War is an more-than-interesting study. It is also a study of heroism, devotion to duty, and loyalty.
