    Forgotten Foreign Forces: Spain

    in Waterloo Remembered

#WaterlooRemembered Day 3- Forgotten Foreign Forces: Spain. Today, in a bit of a curve ball, I speak to Prof Alicia Laspra about Spain, a country not usually associated with the Waterloo campaign, but arguably still forgotten by the other coalition powers. Please take the time to share widely. Tomorrow I will be speaking to Vanya Bellinger about how Prussian involvement in the campaign has been downplayed. https://anchor.fm/the-napoleonicist/episodes/Waterloo-Remembered-Day-3-Forgotten-Foreign-Forces---Spain-ef3k5k

Hello, no, you can listen on Apple, or Google podcasts, or Anchor FM (in fact it's on about 90% of podcast providers). You might need to set up an account, but you don't have to pay to create that account, and you don't have to pay to listen either. Hope that helps.

Very interesting to hear of the views of Spain / the Spanish on the wars against Napoleon. I enjoyed reading about the views of the British on Spain / the Spanish by Gavin Daly and we are researching the views of the KGL on the Iberian Peninsula and the inhabitants and how much of these views might be influenced by older writings. So this provided the perspective from the other side.

I agree, I think this was a fantastic interview. Alicia's comments on how the history is taught in Spain ties in with an interesting Spanish blog post which I recently (and agonisingly) translated in my search for information about Castro Urdiales in 1813. The blogger said virtually the same as Alicia about the history that is taught. Really well done interview.

Wow - what an impressive interview - certainly changed my perspective about Spain and even more important to gain insight in the view, at least of a Spanish scholar.

Also in observation of social mechanism, rejection instead a acknowledging to have learned something new, revealing.
