Hi everyone,
For the benefits of members old and new who may not know you, please feel free introduce yourself below, if you would like to, perhaps saying a bit about where you are from, and what your interests are.
Stay well
Zack
Hi all, I'm Ciarán. I know some of you from conferences and Twitter and I'm looking forward to getting to know more of you in the new forum. I'm from Meath in Ireland, just like Wellington!
My doctoral thesis investigated Irishmen in the British military during the French Revolutionary Wars, demonstrating how their experiences of the conflict were shaped by the nature of their "Irish" identity.
I'm also very interested in the Wild Geese; for my postdoc and since then I've been researching the Irish Brigade in the French army, specifically the motivations and shifting allegiances of the officers during the years of the French Revolution.
Hi everyone,
Most of you probably already know more than you would like about my research interests, but for those who aren't familiar/new:
I'm the owner/editor of this site, though I owe a massive debt to Phoebe Style, Jacqueline Reiter and Gavin Lewis who work closely with me behind the scenes.
My interest is predominantly in the British Army during the Napoleonic Era, with a particular interest in both the Peninsular War, and the wider social impact of conflict during this period.
I have written a couple of articles - one in the relationship between Wellington and his troops in the Iberian peninsula, another on how newspapers and caricatures catered to and influences perception of the Peninsular War amongst the British public. I also have a chapter forthcoming in an editted collection by Helion on Morale and nationalism during the same conflict.
My PhD thesis is on crime and punishment in the British Army between 1808 and 1818, and I am also working on a project to see the remains of 6 soldiers killed at the siege of Burgos analysed and given a full military burial.
You can find out more about my work by listening to my podcast 'The Napoleonicist' (released fortnightly) available via the tab above.
All the best
Z
I am from the United States, and I have a keen fascination of Military History, specifically the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic wars.
Unfortunately, I do not have a degree in History, but I have a dedication about this era of history, and would love to do some research on it in my free time.
Not only do I have a fascination with this era of history, but I love Music History, specifically from the 1920s and 1930s.
Good evening (it is 9:30pm in our part of the world), this is Leo from the Philippines. I have been a student of Napoleonic history and military history in general for the past 35 years. I had the good fortune to have been present at the Waterloo bicentennial in June of 2015.
I look forward to learning a lot from the members here.
