Hello everyone,
With school almost finished and testing done, I have found more time to translate some of the research I have done this year. Below is his service record, reports by General de Division Oudinot, Colonel Blancard, and Sous Lieut. Bassigny on his actions at the Battle of Ostrołęka. Also, letters dated 1834, 1846, and 1856 all cite the claims for the Legion d'honneur for Mr. Bassigny. He was seriously wounded at the Battle of Wagram on July 6, 1809, having his left leg carried away by a cannonball. He continued to serve with a wooden leg and was in charge of a National Guard battalion in Fumay, France only meters from the Belgium border. He was captured in July 1815 by the Prussians and only returned to France in January 1816. His career spanned 11 years, 8 battles, and 10 combats with the 2e Carabiners. Each letter adds more details about his career and I really enjoyed translating these documents. I will post each document with its translation in the next post. Also, I will include the Carabinier regimental history for those interested. His Base Leonore file
