In this ongoing series of battle reports of Saxon units serving in the 1806 campaign - handwritten and stored in the Saxon archives, Jörg Titze transcribed and edited the reports of the Saxson Chevauxlegers - Regimenter.
Out of the 4 Saxon Chevaulegers regiments, the reports of Regiments
Prinz Johann
Prinz Clemens
von Polenz
are published, those of regiment Prinz Albrecht Chevaulegers will be published in the next volume.
Again the reader is able to form his own opinion about the fate of the Saxon units, about their leadership and how they fought - instead of relying on the usual blurb ignoring German and in particular Saxon sources and by that creating an immensly distored view about the fatefull campaign of 1806.
Titze, Jörg (editor) Die Berichte der sächsischen Truppen aus dem Feldzug 1806 (VIII) - Chevauxlegers - Regimenter, books on demand, Norderstedt 2021, (124 pages)
Yes, I agree, the one dimensional anglo phone approach to sources will lead more and more to a watered down taste. Still, in some ways, publishers like Helion - use foreign language speakers who well are using such sources and translate at least some parts of it - into English.
And Jörg Titze did the same, as for 1806 also for 1809 - and one is able to read the impression of that campaign from reports of Saxon officers and it is for example quite interesting what they have to say about Bernadotte and Wagram.
