Looking for the first name and some basic biographic information on a Württemberg cavalry officer named Seebach. He is listed in the 1813 Württemberg Hof- und Staats-Handbuch (p. 118) as a major in the "Louis-Jäger," that is the Jäger-z-Pferd Herzog Louis Nr. 3, and a member of the Legion of Honor (but could not find him on Base Léonore). Welcome any details. Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately, the names listed were only the last names.

I find his name (1803) listed as Hans Christian Ludwig von Seebach, A number of years (1813, 1815), he is listed as "in Sachsen". In 1815 he is listed as "ausser Dienst".
Königl. Württembergisches Hof- und Staatshandbuch 1815 lists him as Knight of the Military-Merit-Order with the remark "außer Dienst".
Perhaps you can find his firstname and the date of birth and death in one of the volumes of Genealogisches Handbuch des Adels. Most of the german nobility ist listed there.
Yes, you're right ... a google search doesn't give a reliable information about the Wurttemberg major von Seebach. But I found archival material about him (he got problems with possible extraordinary requisitions on campaign) - just look at https://www2.landesarchiv-bw.de/ofs21/olf/struktur.php?bestand=4223&sprungId=90464&letztesLimit=suchen (perhaps you may order copies of the material?)

Hi Jack,
did you check the regimental history of "Dragoner-Regiment Nr. 26", written by Neubronner and the older history of the "2. Reiterregiment" by Starklof?
In the different "Ranglisten" given as appendix the "von Seebach" appears in:
- 1809 as Stabsrittmeister
- 1811 as Major
(- 1812 no mention of him)
- 1813 as Major
from 1814ff no mention of him
In Starkloff's "Geschichte des zweiten Reiterregiments" you find the following information:
- 1809 Stabs-Rittmeister and commander of the "Commandeur-Escadron", later "Leib-Escadron", and particularly mentioned for the attack near the Katzbach at the 17th may 1809 (pages 136-137), for which he became "Ritter des Militair-Verdienst-Ordens" (page 140) and got the Croix de la Legion d'Honneur (page 159)
- 1810 he became "wirklicher Rittmeister" (page 169)
- 14th February 1810 change to the Jäger-Regiment König in exchange with Rittmeister von Wagner
- 11th December 1810 he came back as major to the Louis-Jäger (page 177)
- 20th July 1811 he changed again to Jäger-Regiment König No. 4 (page 184)
- 3th february 1813 re-formation of the Louis-Jäger under the command of Major von Seebach (pages 282-283)
- Begin of the 1813 campaign von Seebach is mentioned as "Stabs-Offizier" (page 288)
- 18th may 1813 von Seebach commanded a cavalry escort for Grouchy (pages 314-315)
- 19th may 1813 von Seebach participated at the combat of Königswartha and lost 4 horses (pages 316-317)
- 26th august 1813 combat of Holbeck, there von Seebach was hitten by a shot, but his silver shield upon the bandolier preserved him severely wounded (page 351), he just lost his consciousn
a short time
- 6th September 1813 battle of Dennewitz; at the end of the day major von Seebach had been at the rear of the regiment and got a blow from a lance shaft by an enemy trooper and became prisoner together with another officer and 35 soldiers (page 369) - he was transported to Jüterbog, where he lay 4 weeks, afterwards he came to Berlin and Königsberg and returned to Württemberg in December 1813 (page 370)
That's all I found with a fast research in these two books.

Thanks, Sir Tom! You are, however, correct, this is a different Seebach. The one in question was a Württemberg cavalry officer, never went to Spain as far as can be discerned.
There's a Guillaume Georges Edouard De SEEBACH listed in Biographie des Officiers de Napoléon tués ou blessés pendant la Guerre d’Espagne (1808-1814) par A. MARTINIEN réalisée par Jorge Planas Campos. But I don't own a copy of that
I am guessing you already looked in those books!
Not to be too forward, but does this mean you are working on a book for the 1813 campaign??? If so, I would be very interested in reading more about this campaign.
Couldn't find his first name, but it shows Major De Seebach was wounded twice. Once on 26 August 1813 at the Combat of Hollbeck (Battle of the Katzbach) and a second time on 6 September 1813 at the Battle of Juterboch (Battle of Dennewitz). He was awarded the LdH on 14 October 1809 serving as a Captain with the 1e Regiment de Chasseurs a Cheval du Duc Louis de Wurtemberg. https://play.google.com/books/reader?id=KF02WJRVvQYC&pg=GBS.PA398
He is listed as a Stabs-Rittmeister in 1809 https://play.google.com/books/reader?id=CmwAAAAAcAAJ&pg=GBS.PA48
Interesting that all the Seebach's on Base Leonore are from Saxe or Saxe-Weimar.
