This is the third time this year I have had to report the passing of one of the Old Guard of Napoleonic Studies. It saddens me to announce that Nick Haynes died last month. For those who did not know who he was, Nick had a lifelong interest in the Light Division and wrote or helped produce several books on it and its regiments. Nick served as an officer in the Royal Green Jackets, was a successful businessman, and a philanthropist. He worked tirelessly to raise money for the charity Care for Casualties. He was an avid collector of primary sources dealing with the Light Division and had explored the division’s battlefields many times. His knowledge of the division’s exploits and individuals who served in it was superb. He was always willing to share what he found with me and many of the pictures and unpublished diaries I used in my book on the Light Division were provided by him. He will be missed.

Shocked and sad to hear this; a great and knowledgeable enthusiast.
