    Tauberbischofsheim French Austrian cavalry combat?

    in General Discussions

hello when this scene took place, it seems to concern the French 2e Hussards against Austrian Hussars in this german city

I found that the 2e Hussards was around Burg Eberach in august 1796 at only 60 km but not a word about this german place

Bonsoir, Notre confrère Ps09 nous a permis de découvrir une bien belle scène de combat. En voici une autre datant également du XVIIIème. Il s'agit de cavaliers

Most likely to withdraw to is Rheinbischofsheim. It is in Germany 10 km northeast of Kehl. It was called Bischofsheim zum Steg.

The April 1797 one must be Bisschofsheim in France. I found in my reference seven places called Bischofsheim. Considering the numbers of bishops a rather moderate number.

I am wondering if the two places have been confused - a serious actoon related to Bischofsheim in April 1797 and a small skirmish in Tauberbischofsheim in early September 1796?

Tauberbischofsheim rings a bell, should be in Franconia - check it out on a map- or google maps.

Burg Ebrach, today known as Burgebrach - just about 15 km away from where I live, it is on the road via Ebrach to Würzburg, which cuts across the country and is no following the Main river.

Could be fighting at Kehl, after which Petrasch pulled back on Bischofsheim in mid-September 1796? https://books.google.com/books/about/Geschichte_des_Feldzuges_der_Franzosen_i.html?id=IEBhAAAAcAAJ P.193 or alternatively a battle fought there on 21st April 1797?

It is about 20km south-west of Wurzburg, scene of Charles's greatest victory on 3rd September. It is probably just an outpost skirmish.
