Ina report of January 1801, Archduke Charles wrote that "An empire like Austria does not collapse without shaking all of Europe in its death throes." It sounds almost like a prophecy of the First World War.
So, I was interested to come across this short video about Austria-Hungary's strategic evaluation and how it pushed the empire into war in 1914. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCOUeRIr1e8 Allowing for Serbia being a province rebelling against the Ottoman empire in 1808, albeit still with pan-Slavic ambitions, the arguments are very similar to those of 1809 - essentially act now or guarantee losing everything sometime in the near future. Allies are increasingly few and becoming unreliable, while the threat of Russia grows from the east with its interference in the Balkans. To the west, multiple fronts were also probable. At 10:30 a section called 'Removal of the Obstacle' is of course about Archduke Franz Ferdinand, but it could be just as easily the political fall of Archduke Charles, engineered by his more warlike opponents.

After a lapse of many years I just re-watched the 1974 BBC series "Fall of Eagles" which in 13 one hour shows (now to be found by searching on You Tube in the USA) depicts the WWI collapse of German/Austrian/Russian crowned heads. Very well written and acted shows.
