Anyone of any importance or notable ability? Not sure why folks from a line regiment matter in the "Vive le gros, putrescent roi!"context, but perhaps I should put on my bifocals and have a closer look.
Hi Maggie. No, nobody of importance at all. Just the officers from the dusty depot down in the south-west of France. But that makes it even more poignant, I think. Hopefully, none of us would ever have to make that sort of choice -- cancelling one oath and signing off on another to prove ourselves loyal and, thus, to keep our jobs. But that was what 1814 and 1815 were like for so many soldiers, famous and forgotten. This document gives just a tiny insight into that.
