In 1812 - 1813, Captain Charles Gray, 3rd Battalion 95th Rifles, was sent to the Alicante Region of Spain to recruit Spaniards into the 95th Rifles.
Does anyone know where this region was? I think it was in what is now Estremadura, but cannot find it on a map.
I am fairly sure it is not the city of Alicante, which is on the east coast of Spain.
Thanks!

Bob,
Further look at Verner.
In June 1810 there were 3 companies (Percival, Kniveton & Gray) in Cadiz.
In August Percival's company was transferred to Portugal.
Towards end of 1810Lt Col Barnard commanded 4 companies (Ross, Knipe, Gray & Fullarton) on Isla de Leon.
On 30 June 3 companies left Cadiz for Portugal - company commanders not listed. Knipe was killed at Barossa, a company under Jenkins was involved at Tarifa.
In 1812 only 9 Spaniards were shown as enlisted in the 3rd battalion.
