The Polish Question: an Apple of Discord between Napoleon Bonaparte and Alexander I

In the time of the Napoleonic era, the Polish Question occupied an important place in the policy of the Great European Powers. The problem of Poland as a factor in international relations arose in Europe during the partitions of that country between the three powers – Prussia, Austria and Russia at the end of the 18th century. However, the erasure of Poland from the maps of Europe did not solve the Polish Problem, more to the contrary; growing patriotism of Polish aristocracy and intelligentsia revived and vigorously reminded to European statesmen this matter of fact.
