Napoleon in Exile Exhibit - 25 Sep 2021 - 6 Nov 2021
Napoleon - a military leader, enemy of the British state and an exile!
This special exhibition tells the fascinating story of Napoleon and his time in exile on St Helena. Find out who cared for him until his death in May 1821 and visit a replica of his bedroom in Longwood House.
Exhibition includes some items which belonged to Napoleon himself. A coat/tunic worn by Napoleon at the Battle of Marengo will be at the museum until 5th November as well as his pistols until early December. It is the first time that some of these items will have been on display in the UK.
It really is a must see, chance in a lifetime exhibition for any military history or Napoleon enthusiast!
Curators at the Moss Street museum have secured part of the uniform worn by Napoleon at the Battle of Marengo for an unique exhibition on the legendary leader.
A golden eagle standard of the 82nd Line Infantry, captured by the Royal Fusiliers at the Battle of Martinique in 1809 is also on its way courtesy of the Fusilier Museum at the Tower of London.
Napoleon was exiled to St Helena in 1821 and in his later years he was attended to by Surgeon Major Archibald Arnott, of the XXth Regiment of Foot, a Fusiliers predecessor. Arnott built up a rapport with the fallen general and was with him when he died. The museum has a standing exhibit on Arnott and Napoleon which will form part of the new display, including the surgeon's own tunic.
