hello
I saw on twitter that Andrew Bamford Helion's 'FRR' Series Editor would like to commission an interesting topic about Army and campaigns of Nader Shah of Persia
he is also asking if we have personal wish-list and ideas for books he should seek to commission on military & naval history 1721-1815
precising No promises, but interested to know what folk would like to see.
The Persian Army of the 18th and 19th century would be indeed a great topic,
so for the "fun", others suggested topics
pay attention that I tried to write like the non-academic disconcerting style of the Helion titles :)
Napoléon's logistics From private companies to companies of private soldiers :
Train des Equipages Battalions and French Army's Commissariat Medical Services and Nurses companies Uniforms Organisation Campaigns
Napoléon's bad soldiers Disciplinary Deserters and Pioneers units (well not sure it will be very commercial)
not being jingoistic I had often the feeling there is a 'gap' about
Great Britain's First Home Guard : Yeomanry Cavalry & Militia Volunteers 1793-1815 Organisation and Uniforms
quite politically correct but however interesting and neglected topic
Black soldiers in white Armies : from Maurice de Saxe's black Uhlans to Napoléon's Chasseurs Coloniaux 1745-1815 blacks soldiers and units at war in Europe
also always inspired by Helion's unusual exotic military titles touch
For Allah, Buddha and Holy Mother Russia : Russian muslims and buddhist units Campaigns Organisation and Uniforms 1799-1814
seeing there is one title on a sister serie about a very exotic ignored war between christian Ethiopia and muslim Adal in the 16th century that I never heard before, I consider that Helion could not be frightened to cover
Indochinese Peninsular Wars : Burmese Vietnamese Siamese Armies
prior to 1945-topics, 1860 at the very best, definitively the terra incognita of the military history edition, a totally ignored area despite took place numerous wars and campaigns before the Colonial period with very large armies sometimes throughout 16th to 19th century (could be shared with From Retinue to Regiment and Century of the Soldier Series)
concerning Russia maybe others wars than the usual 1799-1805-1812-1814 campaigns against France could be of interest with many forgotten wars since the Russo-Austro-Ottoman War of 1735-1739 until
The Russo-Austro-Swedish-Ottoman War 1787-1792
The Russo-Ottoman War and Serbian uprising 1806-1812
The Russo-Persian War 1804-1813
and you what kind of topics you would like to see in the Serie not covered yet?
PS expected topics and 'gaps' such as the rest of the Austrian Army, as they are already on the pipeline for 2023-2024, are not listed here ;)
I see that some member doesn't lost the sense of humor...the war began also at the end of february...
the others sisters-series have so many Swedish topics that it would not be a surprise to see more Swedish Army
hope strongly that an author will be found for the Persian and why not imagine like for Bruno Mugnai's Ottomans an other similar title for
The Persian Army 1796-1813 Campaigns Uniforms Organization
Osprey did a Iran at War 1500-1988 but despite this one the author Dr. Kaveh Farrokh seems more on the Ancient Persia than anything else
The Persian Army in the war with Russia 1796-1828 (Russian text)
http://aerospaceproject.ru/i36
The special military operation in Finnland 1808.
Thanks guys, some interesting ideas there. Revolutionary-era campaign/battle studies and Ottoman wars are definitely two things that I would be interested in commissioning more material on. As ever, it's a lot harder to find the right authors than it is to think of interesting topics!
The campaign in Germany 1796 which decided Bonapartes success in Italy.
I wouldn't mind seeing a book on the Army of the Pyrennes during the Revolutionary Wars, as well as other books on this era, which is under studied in Anglophone literature.
