He will be missed. From a Facebook posting. . .
Mr Bernard Coppens, historian who brought a lot to the battlefield of Waterloo, passed away on September 5, 2020. We lose a partner, and sometimes a dear friend.
Bernard Coppens was a researcher of its own, who defended a truth that went against popular ideas. Forgotten stories, he was constantly looking for unknown archives that he liked to make accessible to the general public.
He was a specialist in the French Revolution and the First Empire, especially in the Battle of Waterloo. He had participated in many successful projects, such as the famous notebooks of the 1815 campaign, in collaboration with his friend Patrice Courcelle, also a partner of the battlefield.
We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.
This is sad news, Bernard was an researcher to the extreme, going the hard way to find information and present them with deep reflection, I am happy to own quite a few original coloured drawings from him.
He published some books, two are my all time favourite - Waterloo, les mensenonges and 1812 L'aveuglement de Napoléon.
